| SUNDAY, APRIL 1, 2012 | | Drake "DJ" Eszes - April 2012 | (IN YOUR OWN WORDS) "WHAT IS POETRY?"
I believe poetry is a vow. It’s a vow to guide the misguided. A vow to be heard when nobody wants to listen. A vow to reflect when one has lost their identity. Poetry is a cure when one has come undone. We, as humanity, define it.
"DID POETRY CHOOSE YOU? OR DID YOU CHOOSE POETRY?
Well, honestly, poetry was always there since I had a desire to write out my feelings from the age of 14. So, I can’t say I chose it or it chose me. I accepted & understood it, that’s all I did. If I chose anything about poetry, it’s how I verbalized it. Will I be heart-warming? Will I be bold? Will I be vindictive? To me, poetry is like time. We don’t choose it. We only choose what to do with the seconds, while we have it.
"DESCRIBE HOW YOU AND POETRY MET?
I would say I “met” poetry, in its true colors, around mid-2004. I was living in Florida trying to start a new chapter of my life. But, it was quickly revealed that it was probably one of the worst decisions I ever made. I hit a new low. In fact, I think the only good thing that came from it was that I lost a good bit of weight.
I got rid of many "friends" and even disconnected from some of my family that I was once pretty close with. All I wanted to do was cry and come back home. But, I felt that wouldn't have been the "man" thing to do. So, after having a wonderful heart to heart with my parents, I did return... knowing I did all I could while I was down there. During all these revelations, I grew the urge to speak loud. To, "yell" on paper, if you will.
So, in late 2004, I did. I started with a series of writings simply called "Random Thoughts". I wrote about 35 volumes of them. It was then, around the teen volumes, that I decided to start implementing rhyme to it and posting some of them on Myspace, when they were popular. I think it worked out pretty well...
"DESCRIBE THE MOMENT WHEN YOU WAS CONVINCED THAT POETRY IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO...OR WAS MEANT TO DO."
I was asked by an old poetry collective on MySpace to check out their poetry internet radio show. As I listened in, I decided to call in and read a piece out loud. It was my 1st time ever doing that, outside of reading to my best friend and a few others. The response was good, but I felt it could've been better. So, I listened to how some of the other poets rolled. I absorbed their styles, and then asked myself, "How could I do this better"? I quickly realized that the only way to do it better, was to be honest with myself and follow no one. It's been a beautiful thing since then...
"WHAT HAS POETRY DONE FOR YOU PERSONALLY"
Shine. It has helped me shine in a way I couldn't imagine. I successfully ran 2 of my own internet radio shows, guest spots on a few others, and interviewing many well-known & growing poets & spoken word artists. Also, I brought to life my 1st poetry book, "As I Stand". Each new writing has helped me understand who & what I am. What I deserve. How I should be treated. It has helped me come to terms with one of the greatest ironies in this world: That poetry, even though intended to be the greatest form of expression, does not guarantee clarity.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THE NAME OF POETRY?"
An interesting question...
All I've really done is define it by how I've seen it. With that understanding, I've shared it with others that chose or chose not to listen to what I've had to say. Through these revelations, I wanted to create an outlet for other poets who want to be heard...to be understood.
I created a poetry show called "Stand as 1". The show lasted for well over a year and truly, to me, left its mark. Many great memories were established each week. The amount of support from the community was solid & meaningful. It's something I will never forget.
Also, as mentioned before, I wrote a book called "As I Stand" to place some of my memories (aka poems) onto the pages that maybe, if I ever have one, my son or daughter can read and appreciate later in life.
And, finally, I think I did inspire a few people along the way...mission accomplished.
INSPIRATIONS
Life...that's it.
Life inspires me. Be it positively or negatively, it has inspired me. And, yes, I even say "negatively" because I've learned to always make sure my glass is half-full no matter who tries to sip from my cup.
From the vindictive lies, flirtatious pick-up lines, & corrupted agendas to supportive revelations, respected embraces, & genuine friendships that I've come across...yes, life inspires me.
There is a lot of very deep, personal involvement in between the lines of my response. But, that's something I'm choosing to keep private. They know who they are.
OTHER TALENTS
Well, I'm a 16 yr. veteran DJ in the Electronic Music scene. I also continue to slowly, but surely learn how to produce some music. Which, I'm now applying that bit of knowledge (including my writing skills) to making my 1st video game with my newly created Indie Video Game Start-Up called Nascent Games. I am a proud gamer nerd. J
Also, I can cook a pretty mean breakfast which involves French toast, Spanish seasoned Red-Skin potatoes, & a Turkey & Cheese omelet. True story...

(IN YOUR OWN WORDS) "WHAT IS POETRY?"
Poetry to me is an expression that comes deep within ones soul. It allows for me to forego all fear and be as vulnerable with sharing my true feelings and or experience whether they are good or bad. Poetry started out as my way of healing from hurt and heartache to a tool to uplift and empower others. Poetry is a tool for educating, healing and guiding our future generations.
"DID POETRY CHOOSE YOU? OR DID YOU CHOOSE POETRY?
I have to say that poetry chose me. I dabbled in many art forms as a relief to the hurt I experienced which came from the nonexistent relationship between my dad and me. I turned to dance and drawing but I always seemed to meet during these artistic endeavors individuals which were hardcore poets and would bring me into their festivities. After sometime, I found myself more drawn toward expressing myself through poetry. It just came more naturally than dance and or drawing. It did not have to put forth as much effort to create a piece it just flowed from within with ease. So this is why I say that poetry chose me.
"DESCRIBE HOW YOU AND POETRY MET?
I was in the 7th grade and my teacher Mrs. Lawrence assigned us a unit on poetry to discuss and we had to write one of our own. She was quite pleased with what she read and encouraged me to write more. I did not initially jump to this idea of writing poetry but because Mrs. Lawrence knew of the struggles that I had with the absence of my dad, she encouraged me to use poetry to express my feelings. I enjoyed this method of expression which did not limit me in my thoughts or feelings.
"DESCRIBE THE MOMENT WHEN YOU WAS CONVINCED THAT POETRY IS WHAT YOU WANTED TO DO...OR WAS MEANT TO DO."
In 1993 I recited a poem at our Senior High Graduation on the subject matter ‘We are the Future’ one of the students in class below me (11th grade) came to me later and expressed that she appreciated the words expressed in my poem and it encouraged her to not drop out of school and continue on to her senior year. Then just a couple years ago a fellow poet who had not been doing much with her poetry expressed that my dedication to writing influenced her to pick the pen back up and get to writing. Both the moments let me know that this is what I was meant to do because something I expressed and or dedication to the craft inspired them to make positive steps in their life.
"WHAT HAS POETRY DONE FOR YOU PERSONALLY"
Poetry helped me through childhood issue with the lack of my father’s presence and most certain go me through the struggles transforming from teenager to adulthood. It assisted me through my divorce with my 1st husband and the emotional abuse that came from that relationship. When I am writing I feel as though all the stresses I feel are being extracted from my very being. When I am performing this is the moment when I am the most free, I am no longer in the mode of motherhood, being a wife but a I am a teacher painting a verbal picture for the those listening to place themselves into and take a journey with me.
"WHAT HAVE YOU DONE IN THE NAME OF POETRY?"
In the name of poetry I started the organization STAP.ORG (stop the abuse please.org) where poets can come together and use poetry to educate and uplift our community and unit with in the fight to end the cycle of abuse. Up until starting this organization I have always used poetry as a tool to assist others who have been abused to not only tell their story but to seek the needed resources to gain the help to leave the abuser and move toward healing and loving one’s self.
INSPIRATIONS
My daughter, Haillee is one of my inspirations because she has fallen in love with poetry and to seek her grow in her ability to express herself in the written word is a beautiful thing. Not to mention I can see bits of my writing style in her own style. This inspires me to continue to write and fine tune my own craft. Another inspiration is my faithful followers of my poetry. This helps me keep in mind that my poetry has relevance in someone’s life therefore I am inspired to keep writing for them. My husband is an inspiration as well because he is dedicated to the unity of poets and bridging the gaps. Seeking to build a foundation which poets of all genres can experience each other’s. This inspires me to not only be versatile in my writing style and subject matter, but to branch out to those that I share craft with. We sometimes tend to share only within our circle who shares the same writing style, subject or skill level. But I have been inspired to do just the opposite. There are also 3 poets that have also been an inspiration to me because they are true to their style and do not by any means bend or conform to another's opinion as to what spoken word or poetry is and they are Leketia Brown, Amanda Paradyme and Soultre.
OTHER TALENTS
I love to draw houses, and rooms. Cooking is another passion. I enjoy cooking for others and see them satisfied and with a full belly. Dance is another love of mine; self-expression: telling a story through dance. I also enjoy crocheting and creating gingerbread houses. I also have a passion for writing stories and creating a world that one can escape to through story telling. And if you were ask certain friends and family they would say another talent I have is being ‘OCD’ with house cleaning lol

| | SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2012 | | I Want U | I want to stand...
face to face...
cheek to cheek, knee deep in the nakedness...of u.
Let our souls out to play (show me what u are made of)
I wanna...
trespass over ur ass; illegally cross ur border
get lost in ur valley and from ur lovin' cup...i quench my thirst.
(unleash our carnal desires...tear me limb from limb)
I wanna star in ur movie
the one that ur girlfriends don't even know about.
(U know the one)
No, not that one, the one that is too raunchy to even tell ur diary, lights...
camera...
action, tonight...
nothing's taboo.
I never wanted to be a slave to anybody's ways but...
ur body's callin'.
Got me...
dazed and confused. I wanna be,
used and abused by u (just let go, baby)
With no stretch of the imagination
I wanna,
have relations with u.
Far and few, in between
the right one comes along, if ever at all.
From the gates of hell I may fall
for these...
thoughts and all these naughty dreams I keep havin' daily of...we.
Can't take too much more, baby, got me...
goin' in circles, merry go 'round and spinnin' out of control (I'm so strung out over u)
Com'ere, girl, let me put a ring on it.
Com'ere, baby, let me put some 1LOVE on it.

I wanna stand...like D'Angelo's Untitled before the sighs escapes
How does it feel flows from lips?
My thoughts of u are so salaciously sinful that even the devil himself blushes
because he overheard my growls of the positions, I want u in...
I want to be in u...I want to begin anew with u.
Tongue tips wire tapping ur center to reveal secrets ur clit whispered to the pink glazed lips...
unsealed to the pen of my diary.
Let me fill up ur pink pad until ur hips
drops lines of rhymes on slow grinds.
Labia spitting squirted verses illmatic...
thighs spread like signs of deuces to freestyled pumps, pushing pneumatic.
Kegel grippin' my mic stand until the recite of ur body is heard saying
Damn...this shit right here, this shit right here...this, shit right here
got me leaking the ink of our spoken word.
I wanna show u...this bad boy tonight.
Can we maybe role play tonight?
Make a movie tonight.
Come in the room in just a towel
so we can play Mark Anthony and Cleopatra tonight.
I have been aching to lap at the rivers of ur Nile.
Dip 4 fingers into ur swelling swells to stir the surface of placid lust.
(Because to me...Good Love)
Is making this fascination of the anticipations of Foreplay's Dance last for a lifetime.
With soft lips scribing kisses of erotic lines,
while my fingers are copy writing on pink pleasured principles of...that is mine.
With T-shirts and panties on and nasty grinds.
So cmere, baby, let me put a ring on it.
Cmere, baby, let me put some...RYearby on it.

| | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2012 | | Numb | "Can you smell that?"
It's the odor of innocence lost
the stench of hope...gone.
I much prefer the smell of you cookin' breakfast...
bacon, cheesy eggs, and mommy...your pancakes always came out browned to perfection.
Your french toast was my favorite though.
I can just taste the love.
I got four A's this semester, and you took me to receive my Most Improved Award, but you slept thru the entire ceremony.
You was in such a rush to get home, you nearly hit that woman and her baby in the cross walk.
You dashed upstairs and locked yourself in the bathroom for hours.
I remember when you were high...on life.
Now, now you cradle that spoon and needle as if your life depends on it.
You used to hold me like that; with such love, an undeniable, unbreakable bond.
I miss you, mommy.
Thank you for the computer.
It's a gift; it's a curse, too.
You see, I found someone who will treat me way better than you do.
Hell, at the very least, he can't be worse than you.
By the way, I have not met him yet
but he assured me everything will be ok.
Seems like a nice enough guy
so I'm off to give him a try.
Four and 1/2 months later, she received a visit from the SVU Division.
The pictures were too gruesome, so they showed her piece of jewelry for a positive id; a gift for his 12th birthday.
At first glance she knew...
her eyes swelled with tears, she screamed and yelled.
It's been a long while since she showed any emotions.
It's been a long while since she felt anything.
All she has now are vague, hazy memories.
The inscription on the bracelet reads, "I will always protect you, mommy."
At first glance she knew...she failed as a mother.

| | FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2012 | | Love Makes No Sense | I FEEL love! Right down to my core.
Love causes my body to shake and tremble.
I'm not quick. I'm not nimble.
Love smacks my face! Head bounces on the floor.
I can't dodge the swings. I scream, "Stop! No more!"
Love takes aim, yells God's name in vane
and with a swift swing of the wrist...oh shit! I can't SEE.
And they got the fuckin' nerve to say, "You should leave."
I say, "I can't!"
They ask, "Why!?"
And I reply, "I'm in love."
So I,
go back and let love darken my other eye.
Fresh mornin' brew.
Hey love, "How many lumps for u?"
(POW!) 1. (BANG!) 2.
Love is in the air.
Wherever u are, I wanna be there.
I'm lost! Without u, what would I do!?"
Love rears its' hand again and plunges with maximum force.
The pain is too much to bare, can't inhale, lost all sense...of SMELL.
I'm a beast! In the kitchen.
Love stays fed,
3 squares and anything in between...including late night smacks.
I don't recall the satisfaction of my own cookin'.
Delicious, multiple flavas exploding on my tongue.
I forgot what that feels like since love slapped the TASTE out my mouth.
At 1 time, I heard everything clear as a bell.
Then Love had to repeat itself and sometimes yell.
Now, now I can't HEAR anything at all,
cause repeatedly, Love beat my eardrum and slammed me into the wall.
Love kicked and tripped me, but I refuse to fall!

I've touched, seen, smelt even tasted Love.
I've had enough!
Last time, I told Love, prayed to Jesus and God, "Never Again!"
Apparently they didn't get the message or they thought I was jokin'.
I pulled a Nine from behind my back (click-clack).
"Listen to me, Love. Now that I have ur attention. I have 1 thing to say before I send u on ur way.
And I need u to believe me, just as I believed u.
I...
I love u, too (BANG! BANG!)
